Karl Lagerfeld Suspended In Animation

Karlgta After conquering the real world as an iconic designer, respected photographer and successfully masquerading through numerous artistic endeavors, Karl Lagerfeld descends on the final frontier. No, not space- although it’s quite possible Lagerfeld will have assembled the first fashion show on the moon before he heads off for glory at his work rate. Lagerfeld succeeds in going a little further to the virtual world where he descends on Grand Theft Auto's Vice City in all of his stylish pomp. Lagerfeld is no common thug in Vice City, but a hip DJ at Vice City's K109 Studio station. Players can listen to Lagerfeld's groove selection of electronica and dance music mixed with his heavily accented politically incorrect musings on style and life.

Black Out On The Catwalk

Jourdan_dunnthumb_2 British model Jourdan Dunn achieved a rather puzzling and dubious distinction at the F/W shows. Dunn was the first black model hired to walk in Prada's Fall/Winter '08 collection since Naomi Campbell sashayed to Miuccia's Italian groove in 1997. One is to reason, that for 22 concurrent seasons models of color where not in vogue at the iconic Italian label.

On one hand, Miuccia's designs evoke a sublime sensibility with a subtle subversive whit that's fashion forward. On the other, Prada's casting directives for runway and in their ad campaigns is a blast to the past. To be fair, Prada is not the only fashion house guilty in this respect. The undisputed preference for white models permeates throughout the industry, with the practice so commonplace that it’s an afterthought to think otherwise. Maybe next season Muiccia will surprise us with Dunn, Chanel Iman or the industry's latest token black model prancing down her runway- effectively inciting an industry resurgence for models of color. Or maybe, black models will once again be M.I.A on Prada's runway until 2018. - Laina Whitney Faber
